Three Things to Look Out for in April
Following Easter weekend brings in the month of April, the informal beginning of warmth. We are a few days in, with some major moves already being made and more to come. With these rays of sunlight, we have something to look out for, a few upcoming projects and albums which are sure to kick off your Spring in full effect. Let's dabble in what is to come.
1. The Weeknd has dropped his new album EP "My Dear Melancholy"
It has been two years since The Weeknd released his last album, dropping a single here or there. Over the course of 6 months, he has been hinting to work in production via Instagram. Finally, he's dropped "My Dear Melancholy". He posted a screenshot of him and his long-time friend/creative producer touching down a release of something special, then on Friday evening released the EP.
Let me be the first to say that this not only completed my month but my year. Anytime a new piece by TW comes out, it's headphones on and all other noises out. We have seen nothing short of a hat trick with his last three albums, and I believe his fourth has done the same. It is the perfect blend of an early era Abel mixtape and with a little less of his more recently known pop sound. You feel the music off of this 6-track album, featuring collaborators such as Diplo, Skrillex and Mike WiLL Made-It. Check out "Wasted Times" as a representation of the album. With his upcoming headline of Coachella with Eminem, expect to be shedding a tear on the main stage soon.
2. DMX will carry out his 1 year sentence for Tax Fraud
On Wednesday the 28th of March, 2018, Earl Simmons AKA DMX was sentenced to 1 year in federal prison for tax evasion. The 47-year-old is said to have filed false tax reports from the years 2000 to 2005, during the climax of his success. The Ruff Ryders rapper has been imprisoned since January after his bail was revoked due to previous charges such as animal cruelty, drug possession, weapons charges and probation violations. He is charged with evading $1.7 million in taxes during this time frame.
It's a dog day afternoon for DMX, arguably one of the best rapper's to ever hold a mic. It is hard to imagine that his defense proposed listening to his lyrics as a way of escaping the charges. This is not the first bout of hard times to befall the NY rapper. Over the past few years, there have been numerous accounts of Earl Simmons falling on hard times, from him being unconscious in the parking lot of a Ramada Inn and his bankruptcy in 2013, to videos of him on WSHH high on crack. The times have not been good to our friend, and I personally wish him the best of luck. I can only hope that he lands on his feet when he is released.
3. Post Malone goes on tour with 21 Savage
Everyone's favorite beer-bong tactician is going on tour starting the 14th of April with "Rockstar" collaborator 21 Savage. The tour kicks off at Coachella, underneath The Weeknd and various other hit names. From there he heads all around the states, eventually heading over the Atlantic to perform in various European countries, including the UK. I am happy to say that I will be catching him at Reading Festival this August. We can expect such "classics" as "White Iverson" and "Congratulations", and if 21 Savage is aboard, "Rockstar" of course.
